ENVIRONMENTAL FEEDBACK

Data Design, Graduation Project, 2017

by Twin de Rooij

(Graphic Design)

In this project I am exploring the possibilities and implications of recording environmental factors, and projecting those back. We as humans are a complex system that record our environment through senses and react on it in certain ways. I found it very fascinating that the use of sensors (light, sound, temperature etc.) make in possible to mimic those factors of input. In my experiments I am looking for ways to create visual and real time feedback loops of environmental factors through programming.

By creating and testing prototypes I looked into the implications of such a system on single humans, as well as groups or even buildings and spaces themselves. My experiments have shown me that a visual feedback system can influence and change the way we use and interact with spaces. For example, being aware of the situation in multiple rooms through the recording of those rooms can influence a person to think about his or her choice of where to be at a moment in time.
